Bio

I am interested in understanding the mechanisms underpinning the increase in crashes when novice teenage drivers transition from the learner to the independent driving period. Currently, the reasons for the increase in crashes are not well understood, providing little in the way of concrete guidance for researchers and practitioners to promote an evidence-based approach to driver training. I have ongoing studies examining the effectiveness of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) systems for novice drivers, and a number of naturalistic driving studies that examine teenagers’ driving behavior and their interactions with their parents as they are learning to drive.
