Chaz Firestone is the director of the Perception & Mind Lab, which investigates how we see, how we think, and especially how seeing and thinking interact to produce sophisticated behavior. A primary way that seeing interacts with thinking is by allowing us to take in and learn new information. How does this process of ‘visual learning’ work? Is it ’optimal’ and ‘rational’, or does it show various ‘irrational’ quirks and biases? The lab uses behavioral experimentation and computational modeling to investigate these questions and others.
